About Us
Hello, and thank you for looking in on Balmy Attic Arts "About Us". Here you
will find a brief synopsis on how and why Balmy Attic Arts was formed, and
who the artists are behind it.

The How and Why of Balmy Attic Arts

(In the works...)

Anne-Marie
As a seamstress, I operated under the business name of 'Seams To Be' for 15
years. I created unique, one-of-a-kind clothing, restored and remodelled
vintage clothing. My passion for recycling, the environment and my childhood
living in England kindled my interest in using
every scrap of fabric from a
project.

With my focus still on unique, one-of-a-kind items I create the Victorian style
crazy quilting available from Balmy Attic Arts. I apply this unique crazy style
to hats, wall hangings, chair covers, bags, and other home furnishings.

I use cotton fabric and cotton batting sourced from the U.S.A., Egypt or India.
Unless otherwise stated, I use only
new material.

Victoria
Since a small child I've always been attracted to “sparklies”. Growing up in an
artistic household, it was only natural for me to 'make something'.

From an early age, I worked with my blacksmith father in a traditional forge.
This is probably what gave me the love of twisted metal. My mother (who does
the quilting) taught me colour, form and fit. Being a stickler for comfort, all
my jewelry is tested rigourously for ease of wear and durability.

Time passed, I made jewelry and took courses, when one day it was brought to
my attention the existence of the Summer Company program. This is a
Ontario government program geared to students in late high school and
university. I had to present my business plan, product and credentials to the
Program Coordinator for my region.

I was one of seven students selected in my region to receive government
funding and business mentoring to put my business plan into action. With this
funding I established Sünniva's Wire Wearables as a Canadian, owner-
operated business.

After the Summer Company program, I continued my business as a part-time
venture, until I closed it on December 31, 2006 to begin a partnership with
Anne-Marie and John.

I also work in the fashion industry with a national company, I have learned
much about customer service. I give my personal attention to every detail,
from listening to what you want, to making what you want, and checking in
afterwards.

Currently, I am pursuing a university degree in Fine Arts.

I source the majority of my supplies within Canada. My wire is shipped in rolls
-- there are
NO prefabricated links used in the creation of my jewelry. All of
the glass used in my designs is Czechoslovakian firepolished glass imported by
one of my suppliers.
